How do you define ‘family’?

Family is an inclusive term encompassing groups of all shapes and sizes. Just you and a pet? Single parent and child? Newlywed couple? Parents, four children, two dogs and a rabbit? Couple with a baby on the way? All wonderful. A portrait is a result of the relationship between the photographer and subjects and not constrained by any labels.

Will you travel to photograph my family?

Absolutely, yes! Sessions within a 60 mile radius of Richmond have no travel fees. A flat $100 fee applies to family sessions in the D.C./ Baltimore area. If you book a session during dates I’m already planning to travel to your location, no fees apply. To book a special trip, please email me for more info on travel rates!

The average session lasts 1-2 hours. Session prices vary depending on the length of session an number of images delivered. All packages include discounts for print and album purchases. Please fill out my contact form or e-mail for a detailed pricing guide.

What sort of photo sessions do you offer?

Why don’t you offer shorter sessions?

I do! But you won’t have access to the shorter sessions until you book your first full-length family photo session with me. Why? Because I want to get to know your family (not to mention it takes a while for kids to warm up). Once you’re officially a client you’ll have access to year-round Mini Sessions AND your initial fee for all future full-length photo sessions will be waived!

Where do sessions take place?

Family sessions are documentary-style and typically take place in the home and feature a mix of indoor + outdoor candid photos (with a few posed thrown in there), all meant to show a day in the life of your family. Portrait and mini sessions generally take place at public park or other outdoor setting.

I make every attempt to schedule sessions around the golden hours - either early in the morning or around sundown, depending on the time of year. That said, cooperation of the people (ahem, children) being photographed takes priority. If your child is happiest and most easygoing smack dab in the middle of the day, we'll make it work. Please note that family sessions on the weekend incur a $50 additional fee due to my limited availability and that fall and springtime sessions book far in advance due to popularity.

When do sessions take place?

  1. Contact me to review detailed pricing information. I'd be happy to guide you in selecting the best photo session type for your wants & needs.

  2. Let’s pick a date! Please keep in mind that photos during peak spring/fall color book up quickly, so reach out several weeks in advance. I’ll happily provide suggestions on locations and the best time of day based on lighting and your family schedule.

  3.  Plan out what you'll do with your images. After your session, you’ll receive a pricing guide to purchase albums or archival prints. Make the most of your investment by printing your photos rather than letting them sit and collect dust on a hard drive!

How can I book a session?

Will I receive all the digital files from our shoot?

You'll receive a set number of hi-res digital files depending on the selected photo package in addition to receiving print credit for print and album orders. All photo collections combine the convenience of digital photos with the beauty and long lifespan of print.

What sort of products do you offer?

I offer professional prints, fine art archival prints, simple session albums, and customized fine art books. Each photo collection includes a certain amount of credit on all print products. For more details, please e-mail
